The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
